January 21st 1914

I came home by the 3.35 train and did some lessons before tea and most directly after. Uncle Bertie took Cyril and I to the new theatre to see “Drake”, as our Christmas present. H. St. Barbe West was splendid as Drake, so jolly and happy. The trial scene on board “The Golden Hind” was splendid in which Drake, for sake of justice, had to condemn his great friend Thomas Doughty who had been urged to treason by his brother John Doughty who tried afterwards to murder Drake. Queen Elizabeth was very good. The whole thing was exceedingly good.
